The rights to the IKEA concept, including franchise licensing, held by the Dutch company Inter IKEA Systems BV IKEA was founded by Ingvar Kamprad, when he was 17 years old in 1943. The name IKEA is an abbreviation of Ingvar Kamprad Elmtaryd Agunnaryd. Elmtaryd is the farm where Kamprad was born, and Agunnaryd village where the farm is located.
